In the Library, our group found a piece called “Of Memory” by Lynne Yamamoto. Lynne was born in Honolulu in 1961 and grew up in Hawaii but received her BA from Evergreen State College in Washington. She was the only artist in her family, except for her grandpa who carved dolls in his shed.
“Of Memory” is cast polyester fiberglass and was done in 2007. This piece works in the library because it’s a sculpture of the Dewey Decimal System. It had five panels, each a different shade of white. In my opinion this would not work so well in another setting. I didn’t find this sculpture intriguing enough on its own.
